International Food Law

In the global arena a variety of actors contribute to the drafting and crafting of food law. Some of these (including UN, FAO, ECOSOC) place emphasis on food security and the human right to adequate food, other (including WTO, Codex Alimentarius) on food safety, standardisation and trade.
International requirements mostly address states and state like entities such as the EU, rather people and businesses. Seen from the perspective of people and businesses, international food law provides a meta-framework. This is a legal framework that applies to institutions such as states and the EU that set the legal frameworks applying to people and businesses.
For my views on international food law, see for example 'the Global Arena of Food Law'.
